Sodom, later known as Girard, and presently known as Phenix City, is located in Russell County, Alabama
on the banks of the Chattahoochee River opposite Columbus, Georgia. The settlement acquired the name Sodom early on.
Archaeological study of a portion of the settlement took place in 1995, in advance of the construction of the Phenix City Ampitheather.
