North End Plantation,

Ossabaw Island

The North End plantation on Ossabaw Island was established by 1760.

Archaeological study of the North End plantation began in 2003, when a team of Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Historic Preservation Division archaeologists conducted preliminary shovel test survey and limited test excavation at the site. That study is briefly summarized here.

In 2005, additional archaeological survey and testing was conducted by the LAMAR Institute, Georgia Department of Natural Resources, and Ossabaw Island Foundation volunteers, under the direction of Dan Elliott. The results of that work are documented in a full research report, which available online here.
